Producing: Canary Islands
Tricky research, location scout or TV producer on the Canary Islands? We support ARD, arte, ntv and RTL on location in the Canary Islands.
Christina Teuthorn-Mohr is an officially accredited stringer/producer for the ARD radio stations and television programs on the Canary Islands and works regularly for the correspondents in the ARD studio in Madrid.
Christina Teuthorn-Mohr has also worked as a freelance correspondent and author for various German-language radio stations and TV programs since 2016. She now only reports rarely, as her work focuses primarily on coaching. However, when crises such as corona, the volcanic eruption on La Palma or the dramatic increase in migration occur, she picks up the microphone again.
Christina Teuthorn-Mohr works on all the islands: She lives on El Hierro, but regularly travels to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Graciosa, Fuerteventura, La Gomera and La Palma.

BR24 Report: El Hierro? The small island and the big wave of refugees (16.2.2024)
In 2023, more boat migrants from West Africa arrived on the second smallest Canary Island, El Hierro, than the island has inhabitants: 154 “Cayucos”, migrant boats with a total of almost 15,000 people. And the numbers are growing. Surprisingly, despite these numbers, no new Lampedusa is being created on the island, which is only 270 square kilometers in size. With enormous logistical effort, adult migrants are redistributed to initial reception camps on other islands. In addition to the professional helpers, residents also provide emergency aid with great solidarity, while families and sports teams integrate unaccompanied underage refugees. At the same time, the island is at breaking point. Politicians and aid organizations are calling on the EU to urgently do more to prevent dangerous crossings on the west coast of Africa. Christina Teuthorn-Mohr reports.

FAZ Podcast for Germany (7.11.2023):
After the refugee summit: "Should we shoot at those who get on boats?"
What good are the resolutions of the federal-state summit? What is the situation on the Canary Island of El Hierro? And which solutions really make sense?
We talk about this with F.A.Z. correspondent Helene Bubrowski, Christina Teuthorn-Mohr, who lives on El Hierro, and migration researcher Gerald Knaus.

Expert hearing on migration to the Canary Islands
SPD parliamentary group (10.6.2021)
The Canary Islands are threatening to become a new hotspot on Europe’s external border. In 2020, over 23,000 refugees and migrants arrived in the Canary Islands, ten times as many as in 2019. The crossing from the African mainland to the Canary Islands is much more dangerous than across the Mediterranean. We want to talk to experts about the current situation on the islands, but also about the situation in the countries along the North and West African coast.
Our guests are
– Christina Teuthorn-Mohr, ARD journalist, Santa Cruz de Tenerife
– Noelia Díaz, Reporting Officer, UNHCR Regional Bureau for Europe, Geneva
– Jonas Wipfler, Migration and Human Rights Officer, Misereor, Berlin
